SQL Server DBA
Job Specification
You will have strong experience as a L3 production DBA with very good knowledge of SQL Server 2005, 2008, and 2012. Ideally you will be a dedicated SQL Server DBA (not hybrid SQL / Sybase or SQL / Oracle) to ensure depth of knowledge in the product.
Experience of investment banking or equivalent high pressure environment is essential as is previous support of a medium to large SQL Server estate (100+ SQL instances).
You must be a good communicator, proactive in attitude, take ownership of tasks and drive them through to completion and be a good team player.
In the role you will help support and maintain a large SQL Server estate covering the EMEA region:
• SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2014
• 600 SQL instances
• 7,000+ databases
• 600 TB of SAN storage
• 400 applications
Responsibilities:
• Have shared responsibility for backup, recovery and monitoring.
• Deal with change requests and end-user queries for the systems that you will be primary DBA for.
• Deal with serious and critical production SQL Server issues in a timely manner.
• Provide infrastructure, engineering and performance tuning advice to application development teams.
• Provide guidance/support to other DBAs.
• Cover early (08:00 – 17:00) and late shifts (09:00 – 18:00).
• Provide second level on call Mon – Sun outside business hours for one week in approximately eight (first level is provided offshore).
